A topnotch amateur boxer from Cagayan de Oro City etched a name in amateur boxing as he bagged the gold medal in the recently-concluded Asian Confederation Boxing Championships (ASBC) Asian Juniors Boxing Championships held in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan recently.

Flyweight John Vincent Pangga outpointed Sukhet Sarawut of Thailand en route to claiming the gold medal during their championship bout in the finals last week.

The fastising 14-year old amateur boxer from Cagayan de Oro City won over the Thai boxer with a 4-1 decision on points, coach Elmer Pamisa said.

The coach said Pangga displayed his full prowess in boxing as he trounced his opponents from Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan during the earlier rounds of the Asian tournament before facing the Thai boxer in the final match.

The 2016 Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Pangga is a beneficiairy of the city government’s grassroots amateur boxing development program and is now a member of the Philippine amateur junior boxing team. (cio)
