This Oct. 6, local writers collective Nagkahiusang Magsusulat sa Cagayan de Oro (Nagmac) and its flagship publication Bulawan Literary Journal of Northern Mindanao will host “Essaying Self-Disclosures: A Lecture and Writeshop on the Personal Essay” with Wilfredo Pascual, an internationally acclaimed Filipino-American creative nonfiction writer.

The event will also consist of a craft lecture on life writing, a writeshop on the personal essay, a short author interview, and book signing of his latest personal essay collection “Kilometer Zero.”

Pascual, winner of the Curt Johnson Prose Award for Nonfiction and a runner-up to the Steinberg Essay Prize, has received prizes and citations from prestigious international literary institutions such as Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, Best American Essays, UNESCO Literacy Confucius Prize, Philippine American Press Club’s Plaridel Award, and locally, Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards, Philippine Free Press Literary Awards, among others. He was a Creative Nonfiction scholar to the Breadloaf Writers Conference and has attended the New York University’s Summer Intensive Creative Writing Program. He organizes the annual Personal Essay Writing Workshop in his hometown Nueva Ecija.

The event will be first of the series of literary talks and workshop with established Filipino writers to be hosted by Nagmac.

Established in 2014, Nagmac is a young artists collective of established and emerging poets, essayists, fictionists, playwrights, screenwriters, translators, alternative press editors, and indie publishers born and/or based in Northern Mindanao. (nagmac)
