Writers collective Nagkahiusang Magsusulat sa Cagayan de Oro (Nagmac) begins its 5th year with CDO Poetry Night: “jumais vu” this Feb. 23, 6 pm at the SM CDO Downtown Premier-Sky Park at the Fifth.

“Jumais vu,” the opposite of deja vu, is a French phrase which refers to experiencing situations and encountering people and places that one recognizes but nonetheless have become unfamiliar and strange.

Homegrown writers from Nagmac will deliver spoken word performances and poetry/prose readings which revolve around that theme, along with musical performances by local bands and musicians. Previously published chapbooks and journal issues — Mai Santillan’s bilingual poetry collection “Gikan sa Babayeng Bilbilon: Mga Balak,” Raymond Ybañez’s short story and flash fiction collection “Ang Pagsasara: Mga Kuwento,” and Issue 3: “Sendong” and Issue 5: “Departures & Destinations” of the Bulawan Literary Journal of Northern Mindanao — released by Nagmac’s indie press Bulawan Books will also be available during the event. Prizes also await for the best performers of the best pieces from the members of the audience during the open mic session. (nagmac)
