THE weather bureau is watching a low pressure area that may become a tropical depression and affect the country by Saturday night or Sunday morning.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the weather disturbance would be named “Samuel” if it intensifies into a tropical depression and once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility.

As of yesterday morning, the tropical depression was seen 2,310 kilometers east of Mindanao with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour, gustiness of up to 60 kph. It was moving west at 29 kph.

Pagasa said another low pressure area was monitored at 435 kilometers west of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, outside Philippine territory.

Pagasa weather specialist Ariel Roxas said the low pressure area would likely not intensify into a storm but bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Palawan and Western Visayas.

Pagasa said Mindanao, the eastern section of the Visayas and Luzon would likely have moderate to strong winds from the northeast to east with moderate to rough coastal waters. (PNA)
