TAIWANESE authorities arrested a sibling of slain Ozamiz Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog.
Police here say the suspect, Ozamiz Councilor Ricardo “Ardot” Parojinog, was a key player in the familyun drug cartel.
Wanted for his alleged involvement in the illegal drugs trade and other crimes, tried to enter Taiwan using illegal immigration papers, police said.
The slain mayor’s children – Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Princess Echavez, and her brother Reynaldo Jr. – were arrested during the raids. The two siblings are facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and illegal possession of dangerous drugs.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque confirmed the younger Parojinog’s arrest in Taiwan, adding it showed that the councilor fled following the bloody 2017 anti-drug raids in Ozamiz City.
“As they say, flight is a sign of guilt,” Roque said in Marawi City.
National Police spokesman Chief Supt. John Bulalacao confirmed they are still awaiting for the final report following the confirmation by the PNP Drug Enforcement Group of the arrest of Parojinog.
A P5-million bounty for Parojinog’s capture was earlier announced by President Duterte.
The councilor has eluded capture for 10 months after a raid on the family residence last July which resulted in Mayor Parojinog’s death along with 11 others.
Earlier this month, a raid on the Parojinog-owned Dottie’s Inn and the MROP Security Agency yielded a number of high-powered firearms, including two rocket -propelled grenades and numerous shotguns. (mindanews and pna)
