All About Microblading and Microshading

Microblading

Microblading is what you need if you are like me: someone who is too lazy to shade or even brush her bushy brows properly. It is a semi-permanent procedure that helps make your eyebrows fuller (not bruhilda-like). The kind of look it achieves is a natural one, so you dont have to spend hours upon hours drawing your eyebrows to shape and make them look good.

Completely healed after my November 19 follow up procedure

The process is manual and uses tiny needles not a tattoo gun, in case you are wondering that has a small blade. These tiny needles are in a tool that looks like a pen. The blades do not penetrate the skin; they just slightly scratch the surface, so its like someone is making a paper cut. The blades place or implant pigments on the skins epidermis thereby creating natural, realistic, and fine hair strokes. The whole procedure can take as long as an hour.

Unlike tattoos, eyebrows enhanced by microblading look finer and more natural. There is also no deep penetration to the layers of the skin.

Microshading

The gentler (but just as effective) version of microblading is microshading. It is the ideal eyebrows solution for people with sensitive skin. It is also the best thing to get if you want your perfect eyebrows to last longer than the usual.

While microblading produces hair-like strokes, microshading gives you a powder-brow look. As such, your eyebrows become softer and fuller, pretty much like you added some shadows or shades to it. The fuller but still natural look can last up to four years.

A microshading procedure can be from anywhere between 35 minutes to an hour.

In both microblading and microshading procedures, brow specialists usually allot an hour for the numbing cream (usually topical anesthesia) to take effect. After the treatment, you can go on with your daily activities; the only things you cannot do are get your newly-treated eyebrows wet (you can do this only 24 hours after the procedure) and use harsh skincare products on your face.
The healing period usually lasts a week, during which your eyebrows will peel off slowly. Although it can be pretty scary looking at your brows peeling off like sunburn, trust me, it will all go well in the end and youll love the results.

A second/follow up session is required for both microblading and microshading procedures.

My Experience

When my good friend, singer and fitness inspiration Oreo Vamenta, told me about Ms. Shean Libato and Perfect Brows, I was a bit hesitant for several reasons. First, I grew up believing that touching ones eyebrows will make one look older than her age. Second, I never really bothered about my eyebrows. I didnt shave or shape it. And I didnt touch it when I wore makeup. Third, the idea of undergoing the procedure was scary because I have sensitive skin (skin asthma).

But I had to say yes because I was completely intrigued about it and I was also raring to do something different leading up to my 50th birthday.

So one lazy afternoon, I went to Sheans clinic (which was located beside Kambingan sa Buena Oro) and prepared for a fun adventure.

The minute I walked inside the cozy clinic, all my fears disappeared. Shean reassured me that everything will be perfect and hearing her say those words made me feel completely comfortable.

Before we started, Shean explained the procedure to me. She showed me the tools, too. So I knew what she was going to use on my brows. They didnt look threatening! I swear!

Anyway, she started by applying topical anesthesia on my eyebrows. Lots of it! In a matter of minutes, I felt the whole eyebrows area go numb. We had to wait for at least an hour before starting the blading and shading procedures, so she told me the story of Perfect Brows (which I will feature next Saturday).

To make sure that my brows would be perfect, she drew some lines on them or on my forehead. She also made me sit down to check the level of my eyebrows. After an hour more or less she started the actual procedure.

For the look she promised me, Shean combined microblading and microshading. Since I had bushy brows already, she said all I needed was reinforcement. So if we were talking about hair, it would need only some perming and styling. This was why she decided to use both procedures.

Was it painful? I thought it would be, but it wasnt. It was just like something pricked my brows. In Binisaya, the proper way to describe what I felt would be, Murag daghan kusi. Well, I have a very high tolerance for pain but, really, the procedure isnt painful. Youll probably be taken by surprise in the beginning, but thats all. Shean and I were sharing stories the whole time she was working on my brows!

After the procedure, Shean showed me my new eyebrows. She explained that it will appear dark (too dark for some) for more or less two days but once it starts to peel off, it will look fine and natural. And true enough, thats what happened. After two days, my eyebrows peeled (by itself, I didnt touch them). And after one week, my brows were perfectly healed!

I went back to Perfect Brows last November 19 for my follow up session and we went through the same procedure, but a shorter one this time. The follow up is intended to update your brows after the first treatment.

While I was quite hesitant to try miroblading and microshading at first, I am now extra grateful that I was given the chance to experience them. Its an investment thats worth your while, especially if you are the kind of person who believes in her self-worth. Taking care of how you look (and feel) is one of the best ways to love yourself which is something we should all be doing, especially this Christmas season.

Part two of this pre-Christmas special will be all about the lady behind Perfect Brows, Shean Libato.
