EVEN without a declaration of her political plans in 2016, Sen. Grace Poe’s popularity ratings surged, leaving behind Vice President Jejomar Binay in the latest Pulse Asia survey on preferred presidential candidates.

Survey results released yesterday showed Poe ahead with a 30 percent. Binay, who was on top of the surveys until the recent Pulse Asia survey, tailed behind at 22 percent, showing a dramatic plunge from his 29-percent rating in March. In contrast, Poe’s ratings increased from 14 to 30 percent during the March survey.

Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ranked a far third at 15 percent. It was a tie, at 10 percent, for presumed administration candidate Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, a former president. Duterte’s and Roxas’s ratings increased by six percentage points and three percentage points, respectively, while Estrada, a supporter of Binay’s, suffered a two-percentage point drop.

The May 30-June 5 survey results also showed Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago registering at six percent while Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and former senator Panfilo Lacson got two percent.

The same survey results also showed Poe topping the list of possible vice presidential candidates at 41 percentage points.

Senators Francis Escudero and Alan Peter Cayetano followed at 15 percent and 12 percent, respectively.

It was a tie for Duterte and Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at nine percent while Lacson got six percent.

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV received five percent while Rep. Leni Robredo got one percent.
