POLICE yesterday arrested a trisikad driver for sexually abusing an infant on Justo Ramonal Street here.

Police authorities identified the suspect as 19-year-old Ronald Gunayan of Barangay Pagalungan, this city.

The victim is his one-year-old cousin, according to Cpl. Jennifer Jusayan, a Cogon police station investigator.

Jusayan said Gunayan confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Jusayan said investigation showed that Gunayan was entrusted to look after the baby while the mother was out to buy something at Cogon market.

She said the suspect was neither drunk nor under the influence of illegal drugs when he allegedly abused the baby.

Jusayan said the mother began to suspect that something was wrong with the baby because she did not stop crying. When she examined the baby, she noticed that her vagina was swolen.

Gunayan expressed remorse but told the police there was no full penetration. He said that if given a chance, he would never do anything like that again.

Jusayan however said the baby’s parents were bent on pressing charges against Gunayan.

The suspect has been placed under detention at the Maharlika police headquarters pending the filing of charges.
