The Caraga police identified the suspect as 45-year-old Glicerio Monton Jr., a vice mayor whose wife is Jabonga town mayor.

He was arrested during a 2:30 am raid carried out in Purok 4, Barangay Poblacion, Jabonga town by members of the Provincial Intelligence Branch of the National Police, Agusan del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Jabonga police.

The raid was conducted based on a search warrant issued by a court for violation of RA 9165.

Authorities said they found 12 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing about 60 grams of suspected shabu and with an estimated value of P708 thousand.

Police also claimed to have seized a grenade during the raid.

The Caraga police said the vice mayor was brought to the Jabonga police station where he was detained pending the filing of cases for violation of Section 11 of RA 9165 and RA 9516, respectively, at presstime.

Chief Supt. Gilberto Cruz, Caraga police director, said the arrest of the official meant that there is no slowing down in the police campaign against illegal drugs in the region.

“Anyone, a highanking government employee, politician or private individual, will be subjected to the rule of law once caught involved in the illegal drug trade,” said Cruz.
