Chief Insp. Albert Tare, Tagoloan police chief, said they pressed charges for violation of RA 9165 against 23-year old Mario Hero Emano of Barangay Poblacion, Tagoloan.

His father Mario, a member of Misamis Oriental’s legislature, said he would not condone wrongdoings by any member of his family.

“Dili ako supak nga pasakaan sa kaso akong anak kung makita kini nga adunay kasal-anan nga nahimo,” the elder Emano said.

Tare said the younger Emano was arrested by his officers during a buy-bust operation at the town plaza, and allegedly seized from his possession a sachet of suspected shabu, and dried marijuana.

Camp Alagar spokesperson Supt. Surkie Serenas said there was an order to all police chiefs across northern Mindanao to go after members of influential families with alleged links to illegal drug activities, and to press charges as part of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

After the filing of the complaint against the younger Emano, police killed a suspected drug pusher in Barangay Natumolan, Tagoloan.

Police said the suspect, 38-year old Crisanto Flores of Sitio El Salvador, Natumolan attempted to explode a grenade in his house while police were trying to arrest him. Flores succumbed to two gunshot wounds on the chest.

Police said they seized a caliber .45 pistol and a grenade.

Tare said when police found the pistol hidden in a pillow case, the suspect quickly took a grenade and he was shot just before he could pull the pin.

Meanwhile, residents went to the police to report that they found Alexis Canto, a 27-year old dance instructor, dead. He succumbed to a lone gunshot wound on the head.

Canto and Flores were neighbors, and the two earlier went to see the police as a result of the “Oplan Tokhang,” and promised to mend their ways.

Residents said they saw a black van near Canto’s house after the police operation that resulted in the killing of Flores, and heard a a single gunshot.
