POLICE officers escape cheated death as armed men fired shots at them after they arrested a drug suspect in Sto. Niño, Barangay 31 here on Wednesday.

The officers from the Agora police fought back, and a running battle took place but not  one bullet from the suspects and the law enforcers hit any target.

Police said the suspects who attacked the officers were armed with caliber .45 pistol and  .38 caliber revolver.

Chief Insp. Ariel Philip Pontillas of Agora police, who led the operation, said the  exchange took place after they arrested suspected drug pusher Amad Acmad of  Barangay Natumolan, Tagoloan town in Misamis Oriental.

Pontillas said the suspect yielded 15 sachets of white powder believed to be shabu, and a P500-marked money.

Pontillas said two men then opened fire at them, and the officers fought back.

He said the officers were not able to capture any of the armed men because of narrow spaces in the slum.

Residents of Barangay 31 identified the assailants only as “Mark” and “Mike,” allegedly known drug pushers in Sto Niño.

Acmad, meanwhile, was brought to the Agora police where he was detained. Police were scheduled to file a complaint against him at the City Prosecutor’s Office.
