There was no order from city police director Senior Supt. Roy Bahian to intensify the manhunt but Chief Insp. Mardy Hortillosa II, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office spokesman, said authorities stepped up their operations to arrest the suspects identified as Jordano Binalay and his younger brother Bevarcilo.

“Basta ingon ana, dapat buhaton ang tanan para  masulbad ang kaso,” said Hortillosa.

The Binalay brothers have been identified as the killers of 37-year old trisikad driver Napoleon Quimada of Calaanan, Canitoan, on Vamenta Boulevard at dawn Thursday.

The suspects allegedly took turns in attacking the drunk Quimada with knives, chased him across the road, and then finished him off by swinging a sharp bolo to his head.

The motive for the murder remains unknown but police said they were informed that the suspects and the victim were in a drinking binge before the crime was committed.

Senior Insp. Demver Vergara, Carmen police chief, said police were preparing to file a complaint for murder against the Binalay brothers before the City Prosecutor’s Office. Affidavits were being prepared.

“Identified man sila. As soon as possible, among i-file ang kaso against sa mga suspek even if the suspects are still at large,” Vergara said.

He said the police have started exerting efforts to locate and arrest the suspects so they could be brought to justice.

Police said the suspects, residents of Zone 11, Upper Carmen, went into hiding after the murder.

Police reportedly checked the hometown of the Binalay brothers in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

“Dili namo ni undangan sa pagpangita aron madakpan sila ug muatubang sa hukmanan aron tubagon ang ilang nahimong salaod,” said SPO3  Emmanuel Labial.

Quimada, who had a drink too many, was sleeping in his trisikad parked beside a sidewalk when he was attacked, according to a witness.

The witness said a wounded Quimada tried to run away but the suspects chased him and finished him off on the road.
