MAYOR Oscar Moreno’s challenger Jose Gabriel La Viña yesterday started off by hurling brickbats at Mayor Oscar Moreno, calling him “anti-Duterte,” and criticizing him for the corrupt activities allegedly taking place in city hall.

“I want total change in Cagayan de Oro and end graft and corruption in city hall,” said La Viña who served the Duterte administration as Social Security System commissioner, tourism undersecretary and subsequently,  agriculture undersecretary in a span of two years.

La Vina, who is credited as one of the brains behind President Duterte’s social media campaign in the 2016 elections, said he is raring to take the fight to Mayor Moreno whom he called “the most anti-Duterte mayor in the whole Philippines.”

The 61-year-old La Vina, son of former councilor Lourdes La Viña, also accused Moreno of political opportunism, citing Moreno’s having ran as a member of the Liberal Party in the last elections.

La Vina, whose certificate of candidacy was received by the Comelec after his running mate ex-mayor Vicente Emano and congressional candidate Rufus Rodriguez had already left, said he hopes to take the battle to Moreno.

He however declined to say whether he would employ similar tactics employed by the Duterte camp in the 2016 campaign.

The Duterte camp mounted a widely successful social media campaign anchored on social media personalities such as Mocha Uson.

He said he decided to run for mayor because the current city hall administration is only after of “money and power.”

“Sukad sa akong pagka-bata nahigugma na ako sa Cagayan de Oro. It is my first and last love — the city of Cagayan de Oro. Sa milabay ra ba nga election, kini si Mayor Moreno ang dili gahatag og lugar labi na gyud kuryente ni President Duterte,” La Viña said.

He said problems on graft and  corruption, illegal drugs, flooding, traffic and garbage collection were hounding the Moreno administration.

“Amigo ko man kini si Mayor Moreno, isyu lang kita like gusto niya ibalhin ang Camp Edilberto Evangelista sa bukid. Hapsay ba iyang pagbantay sa terrorismo? Gusto niya ibalhin ang kampo sa Dansolihon,” said La Viña even as he accused the Moreno administration of misusing its intelligence funds.
