Gingoog City — Authorities, armed with a search warrant, has arrested a prominent barangay chairman here Monday late afternoon.

Gingoog Chief of Police Supt. Roel Lami-ing said in a text message identified the suspect as Barangay Chairman Jeremie Cabeltes, 40, maried, and a resident of this city.

Lami-ing said Cabeltes is a provincial level high-value target on the illegal drugs watchlist.

Cabeltes owns a gas station and a losing candidate for city councilor  here last May elections.

His father, Barangay 20 Chairman Felicisimo Cabeltes, Jr claimed his son was framed.

Gi plantingan og shabu akong anak. Wala sa insaktong proseso ilang gihimo pag aresto sa akong anak,” the elder Cabeltes said.

He added he will be filing charges against the city police.

Lami-ing, for his part, said the suspect was arrested through a joint effort  of the police from the regional headquarters, provincial headquarters’ public safety battalion, and from his station.

Lami-ing said Cabeltes is the second village chairman arrested in the city since they started their crackdown on illegal drugs in the city.
