THE ordinance proposed by Councilor Lordan Suan for the establishment and designation of motorcycle lanes in major thoroughfares in Cagayan de Oro City and providing for the rules and regulations for the purpose was discussed during the recent committee meeting of the City Council committee on public utilities chaired by Councilor Teodulfo Lao, Jr.
Suan suggested that the committee conduct a study and ask for the opinion of other officials to see whether the proposed plan would be feasible in the city as it is very feasible in Metro Manila.
In the proposed ordinance, all the motorcycles are required to pass through the motorcycle lanes. Aside from safety concerns, this will regulate the proper flow of traffic, Suan said.
Engr. Oclarit of the Roads and Traffic Administration said it is very timely for the city to test such regulation because at present, Cagayan de Oro is already congested with motorcycles.
The matter was referred to the City Legal Office for further study. (cli)
