A worker tends to the mangrove trees grown in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental. The project is part of the 16-hectare mangrove rehabilitation and development projects supported by energy-firm STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI). Locally known as bakhaw, mangroves play a crucial role in coastal resource protection. The dense root systems of mangroves trap sediments flowing down rivers and off the land. This helps stabilizes the coastline and prevents erosion from waves and storms. Mangroves are also vitally important to coral reef protection and enhances overall quality of marine life. The project is part of SPI’s continuing commitment to protect the environment. PR
