What an exhilarating event it was at the Centrio Ayala Mall for the participants of this year’s R.O.X (Recreational Outdoor eXchange) Bike Out Cagayan de Oro, held last August 26 in partnership with Fox Racing.

Event organizer Dennis Yap of Transition Productions welcoming the participants.

Hailed as Southeast Asia’s biggest outdoor superstore, R.O.X. has since envisioned fostering and sustaining communities of outdoor enthusiasts. That is, by bringing within reach the widest selection of premium outdoor products as well as in being an advocate of outdoor recreation through its fun and engaging campaigns such as this year’s Bike Out.

Over 200 MTB (Mountain Bike) riders gathered at Ayala Centrio excited to take part in this event.

It kicked-off with an opening prayer, praying for a safe and enjoyable activity, and with his opening remarks, event organizer Dennis Yap of Transition Productions explained the mechanics and routes of the activity.

But beforehand, the organizers held a friendly competition amongst the riders –  “last rider standing” (if I may describe it), putting to the test their balance; first rider to touch the ground looses, riders flocked to the starting line excited to begin peddling.

Beginning at Ayala Centrio mall, Capt. Vicente Roa entrance, riders first headed towards Gen. Luna St., then out Corrales Avenue heading towards CM Recto Avenue and up the flyover in Velez St., heading towards Barangay Igpit in Opol where they stopped and rested at a gasoline station.

Riders gather at the starting line at Ayala Centrio mall, Capt. Vicente Roa entrance.

From there, they used the Opol-Bulua diversion road passing through two more barangays before crossing Puntod-Kauswagan bridge then coming out at CM Recto, and arriving at the starting (finish) line.

“Last rider standing” a rider outbalances its younger counterparts and shows-off his biking prowess during the opening of the event.

The organizers said that this activity was aimed to provide a venue to gather the local biking community for a fun ride and day filled with bike related activities, compared to last year’s Bike Out where it was a nationwide event, this year only our city had this event which made Higalaay festivel more special.
