The Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front-New People’s Army (CPP-NDF-NPA) has released a video as proof of life of PO2 Gerome Anthony Natividad, who was taken captive in Talakag, Bukidnon on Feb. 9 as part of their effort for the release of their captive.

The statement of PO2 Natividad was also posted over video social media YouTube, a copy of which was sent to different media outlets late Sunday evening.

In his video statement, Natividad claimed that he was not hurt when he was abducted.

Sa pagkaon naa ko’y sud-an gani ang ila wala diha. Gisubay nila ang ilang pagdala sa usa ka bihag,” Natividad said.

He said he learned something new during his captivity with the rebels.

In his more than three minutes video, Natividad extended his messages to his parents for them not to be worried over his situation.

He admitted that he already misses his family because he is not used to living in the mountainous area.

He also extended a message to his police chief to ask President Rodrigo Duterte to finalize his release and allow the implementation of the Suspension of Military Operations so that he could be released safely.

In a news report last Thursday, the rebels claimed that they have been finalizing the release of six government men – whom they have separately captured as prisoners of war.

Joaquin Jacinto, NDF-Mindanao spokesperson, identified the four captives ready to be released as Natividad; PFC Edwin Salan, who was taken captive in Alegria, Surigao del Norte on Jan. 29; and Sgt. Solaiman Calucop and PFC Samuel Garay – both captured in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat on Feb. 2.

He said the releases had been decided upon “as a gesture of support towards the resumption of formal talks between the national government and the NDF.”
