The rallyists numbering about a thousand mostly wore red shirts and stayed for several hours. Aside from the speeches denouncing Marzo’s continuing stay as acting city mayor on the strength of a letter from the DILG, from the region and from the Office of the Under-secretary from Quezon City favoring Marzo because of Regencia’s “temporary incapacity.”

Rallyists heard mass, after which they went on a “Jericho March” passing by the city hall grounds above the area were they held rally, and then returned to the area where they first converged. They carried with them torches while marching around the city.

In said affidavit–a copy of which was obtained by the Gold Star Daily–Tumala declared he was nabbed by the police on Dec. 13 at Gasi, Laguin-dingan because of his involvement in the ambush of Belmonte on Dec. 11, last year. He named the others involved as a Ruel, Dodo, Bino, Jimmy, Diego and Kim. He added said he only attended two meetings in the house of a certain ‘Kim’ and that the person they were going to ambush was an army man because the latter, he said was engaged in “land grabbing.” The meetings, he said was done in the city so he had to travel to this city for said meetings.

It was only later that they were informed that Belmonte was the target and his participation was to act as a lookout.
