Msgr. Precious Cabunoc of the local Roman Catholic archdiocese said the public must know the whole being of a person whom they would be supporting in the 2016 elections.

“Kinahanglan nga mabutyag kung kinsa kini sila nga magpapili. The public must have a guide,” he said.

Cabunoc said those who are seeking positions in government must be measured on their performance or track record. “Daghan ra ba kaayo karon ang magpapili nga mangingilad,” he said.

Cabunoc said candidates can be judged in two ways: the positions they take on issues, and the leadership qualities and experience they would bring to office. He said both are important criteria.

“Your first step in picking a candidate is to decide the issues you care about, and the qualities you want in a leader. When you consider issues, think about the community or national problems that you want people in government to address,” he said. He appealed to voters not to support candidates who distribute money during elections.

“Mahimo nga makasabot sila sa sitwasyon. Konsensiya gyud ang mopatigbabaw. There is no perfect politician, pili-a ang arang-arang nga kandidato,” he said.

Meanwhile, Northern Mindanao Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) Bishop Felixberto Calang said the public must choose based on their objective assessment of candidates.

Calang also urged religious leaders to keep on reminding their followers on the need to correctly select candidates.

“Dako ang role sa media. Kung naglantaw kita sa kabaghoan, kinahanglan nga masayod gyud ang katawhan kung kinsa ang ilang gibotaran,” he said.
