THE director of the Cagayan de Oro Water District who resigned a year ahead of the end of his term has denied that his decision to quit had something to do with any of the controversies hounding the public utility firm.

Former broadcaster Joel Baldelovar said he decided to submit his resignation last month because he accepted the offer of a new bulk water supplier to be its chief operations officer.

Baldelovar’s resignation from COWD takes effect on Dec. 31, 2017. He takes on his new job at a company called Hydrovast Philippines Corp. the following day, New Year’s Day.

He said the company is “a sister company of the biggest construction firm in the city” that plans on investing on a bulk water supply system for neighboring areas of Cagayan de Oro.

Another member of the COWD board told this paper that Hydrovast is part of the UKC Builders group.

Baldelovar told the Gold Star Daily that although members of the COWD board are allowed to have other jobs, he said he felt that propriety dictates that he should resign because Hydrovast would be engaging in the business of water supply. (herbie gomez)
