BUTUAN City — A Butuan City policeman responding to a shout for help from a woman who was victimized by Akyat Bahay robbery suspect was instead shot by the armed suspect he chased early dawn Wednesday in urban Barangay Port Poyohon, this city.

According to a report by PO3 Anthony Echin of the Butuan City Police information office, PO3 Arnel Aceron and PO2 Alfredo Salingay, both assigned at Police Regional Office 13 who happened to be at the area for a covert operation responded.

The woman who called for help was identified as Grace D. Monton, 38, married, resident of Purok 6, Port Poyohon, this city whose house was victimized by the robbers gained forcible entry into her home by destroying the sliding window.

The burglar was able to steal a MC Jim wallet containing cash worth at least P3,600 and a BPI ATM card.

When the suspect noticed that Monton was already awake, the suspect immediately sneaked out through the same sliding window he entered. This prompted Monton to shout for help.

Aceron and Salingay who heard the shout for help immediately responded to the crime scene and happened to meet the still unidentified burglary suspect. The suspect pulled his gun and shot the responding cops.

Salingay was shot wound on his left knee forcing Aceron to chase the suspect alone.

The suspect left his BMX bike.

Butuan Police said they are currently investigating the incident.
