COUNCILOR Enrico Salcedo yesterday accused city accountant Beda Joy Elot of allegedly offering him P1 million just to prevent him from severing his political ties with Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Salcedo said this in response to Moreno’s supposed claim that those who left his group to support the mayoral bid of 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez did it because he could not afford to give them campaign money for next year’s elections.

“Bakakon ang mayor,” Salcedo told local radio, claiming that Elot made the offer.

He alleged that councilors Teodulfo Lao Jr. and Lourdes Darimbang were also offered but they rejected it.

He said he and Moreno allegedly talked for about an hour in the evening of Sept. 15 at Circa Restaurant on CM Recto Ave.. He said Moreno asked him to stay, supposedly after the mayor admitted that he had “lapses.”

A day after the meeting, Salcedo said, he received text messages from Elot who asked that he dropped by her office. He said he went to see Elot, and the city official allegedly asked: “Pila ba gyu’y kinahanglanon sa imong campaign funds? Igo na ba ang P1 million. Gitubag ko siya nga dili siya mahilig sa kuartahay. Midaug ako nga wala nanghatag sa kuarta.”

He alleged that Elot initially gave him P50 thousand as a “gesture of goodwill.”

“Naa ra nako og wala kini malilong sa akong mga kauban,” Salcedo said. (ar)
