ILIGAN City — Congressman Frederick W. Siao of the Lone District of this city has filed five bills before the lower house which seek to separate five school annexes from its main school.

According to Siao, House Bill 3571 if enacted into law shall separate Tomas Cabili National High School – Santa Elena Annex (TCNHS- Sta. Elena Annex) from the mother school, Tomas Cabili National High School (TCNHS) and convene it into an independent high school to be known as Santa Elena National High School (SENHS).

It shall also appropriate funds for the said school.

House Bill No. 3572 and 3574 intends to separate Tambacan and Palao Annexes from Iligan City National High School; 3573 proposes to separate Santiago Annex from Iligan City East National High School; and House Bill 3757 shall separate Abuno Annex from Acelo Badelles Memorial High School in Barangay Tipanoy.

Siao believes the enactment of his proposed measures will address the need for more functional, independent, and financially stable secondary schools.

This is also one way of promoting accessible, affordable and quality education for all secondary students in the said barangays and adjacent areas, he said.

“Accessibility to quality and affordable education that extends to the poorest of the poor has been one of the national government’s thrusts in eradicating poverty as it is henceforth provided by way of the passage of these bills,” Siao said.

The proposed measures also provide that the Secretary of Education shall immediately include in the program of the Department of Education the operationalization of the said schools, the initial funding of which shall be charged against the current year’s appropriations of the mother schools.

“The amount thereafter needed for the continuous operations of the said schools shall be included in the Annual General Appropriations Act,” the bills read.
