ILIGAN City–Rep. Frederick Siao of the city’s lone district yesterday cautioned against preempting the courts in the aftermath of a decision by the Office of the Ombudsman dismissing him for grave misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the public.

Siao issued the warning as talk started going the rounds about the possibility of a special election as an offshoot of the dismissal order.

He said a motion for reconsideration has been filed by his lawyers on his behalf.

In the event that this is denied, he said he would elevate the case to the Court of Appeals.

The dismissal order was a result of a 2014 case filed by Dexter Rey Sumaoy against city officials, including Siao, at that time.

The case was due to the lease by the local government of a lot used as a terminal allegedly without a bidding during the administration of the then mayor Lawrence Cruz. The property turned out to be owned by Cruz’s relatives.

Sumaoy is now Mayor Celso Regencia’s city administrator.
