CURBING CHILD WASTING IN SCHOOL: Energy-firm STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI) together with its partners in the private and public sectors, launched recently a 120-day  school-based feeding project (SBFP) designed to help curb the prevalence of child wasting in its host communities in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. “Wasting”, also known as acute malnutrition,  develops as a result of recent rapid weight loss or a failure to gain weight. In children, it is assessed by low weight-for-height compared to the WHO international growth standards. About 173 children at the San Martin Elementary School will directly benefit from the feeding activities. The project is part of SPI’s continuing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and undertaken in partnership with the LGU, DepEd, PBSP and Oriental Motolite Mktg Corp.
