POLICE here would continue implementing strict security measures, including inspections on the roads, because of a threat of terrorism in the city, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office spokesman Mardy Hortillosa II said yesterday.

The tightening of security in the city would continue even if this causes vehicular congestions similar to what has happened in Tablon as a result of chieckpoint operations, said Senior Supt. Hortillosa.

He said the police was aware of the complaints but public security comes first, adding that city police director Senior Supt. Nelson Aganon stood firm because the city is a target of a terror attack.

“We are just working. Naa man gu’y gaeklamo kang Director Aganon nga relax na daw ang police personnel sa checkpoint,” said Hortillosa. He said the observation came from a mere texter, who he did not identify, three weeks ago.

He said no less than President Duterte pointed out that Cagayan de Oro was “assumed to be under terror and bombing threats” during his recent visit here.

“We are just responding. Kinahanglan gyud nga dunay actual checking. Dugangan lang nato atong personnel nga mag-check,” he said.

Aganon has ordered all police stations in the city to conduct checkpoint operations every two hours on a daily basis.

“Mas maayo nga overacting ta kay mahimo na hinuon nga reactionary force. Pasensiya lang gyud sa kahasol,” Hortillosa said.
