AUTHORITIES yesterday demolished houses in Sto. Niño, Barangay 31, displacing many families, including evacuees from Marawi City.
The demolition was based on a Oct. 28, 2016 writ of demolition of Judge Eleuteria Algodon of the 2nd branch of the Municipal Trial Court here.
Lawyer James Judith said close to 20 houses were demolished. He counted some 185 families, including 53 families that evacuated from strife-torn Marawi, displaced as a result of the demolitions in Barangay 31.
Sheriff Fernando Lancion said, “Wala man tay mahimo ani kay court order man ni, so ato lang gi-implement ang order ni Judge Algodon.”
Lancion served the writ with the police providing his group security.
Tension gripped the barangay after some residents showed some resistance.
Resident Mauna Tanggo said the demolition was untimely.
“Asa man mi magpoyo nga wala may among relocation?” Tanggo asked rhetorically.
Floresa Sabuga-a, chief of city hall’s Homeowners and Development Division, said the local government has prepared a property for relocation in Balubal and Canitoan.
Sabuga-a said city hall would even help displaced residents in moving their belongings to the relocation site once they are ready. (nitz arancon)
