COTABATO City– A sidewalk vendor is now in serious condition after he was hit with a stray bullet as the month long Ramadhan ended Thursday night, police said.

Superintendent Rex Anongos, Cotabato City police director, said victim Rommel Abdul Arsad , a resident of Barangay Rosary Heights Mother, was sitting outside his home when a stray bullet hit him in the head.

“He is now in critical condition at the hospital,” Anongos said.

Anongos said despite an intensified campaign by the city police to prevent indiscriminate firing of guns in welcoming the Eud’l Fitr, some revelers still used their guns.

But Anongos said most of those who fired their guns were from outside the city.

He observed that as early as 9 p.m when the news that the crescent moon was sighted, gunshots have been heard.

Congregational prayers are to start this morning in four major areas in Cotabato City.

These areas are in the Grand Mosque in Barangay Balabaran (formerly Tamontaka Mother), the Cotabato City Hall (Peoples Palace), compound of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and at the Cotabato City Central Pilot Elementary School.

Eid’l Fitr marks the end of month-long fasting month for Muslims where they devote more time in prayers and charity works.

Anongos hoped that no more stray bullet victims will be reported. pna
