GINGOOG City–City hall suspended work in the local government and classes in all levels yesterday because of strong winds since Thursday.

“This is due to inclement weather and strong winds that hit the city,” said Gingoog City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Marlon Pajo.

The CDRRM Office, according to Pajo, had to go on red alert.

The winds were so strong that they toppled down trees and electric poles of the Misamis Oriental II Rural Electrification Service Cooperatives, he said.

“The entire city and the towns of Magsaysay and Medina have no power since Thursday evening,” said Pajo.

He said the 69-kv line of Moresco II in the Nasipit area was badly affected by the strong winds.

“There’s still no advice from the management of Moresco II, and we don’t know when the power supply will be restored,” Pajo said.

Some trees fell on roads leading to outlying villages, obstructing the flow of vehicular traffic.

Some streets in the city proper, including parts of the highway, were covered with fallen leaves and twigs.

He said the strong winds have been experienced since Thursday.
