GINGOOG City — A man, suffering from depression, sent a text message to his relative about him being dead an hour after midnight on Friday. Hours later, he was found dead, with a cord tied around his neck inside a store on Jadol Street in Barangay 17 here.

Supt. Ariel Philip Pontillas, city police director, identified the suicide as 22-year-old Carmelito Cuerbo Tabobo of Purok 2B from Barangay Casinglot in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Police said Tabobo sent a relative a text message that reads “Patay na ko, kol” at around 1 am.

Hours later, after reading the message, Marisol Cuerbo, owner of the Gingoog Paint Center, sent one of her workers to check the store and found Tabobo already dead.

Crime scene investigators found a handwritten suicide note, a rice cooker cord, a cellphone, a wallet and watch.

Tabobo’s elder sister Janine Amor Cuerbo said Tabobo was depressed because his grilfriend from Tablon, Cagayan de Oro, threatened to end their relationship. (Edwin Iyo)
