BACK in the early ’70s, this place in Binuangan, Misamis Oriental used to be a stopover spot for buses where passengers take their breakfast or lunch and the bus crew get their free meal in return. Down below is a cove where fishing boats come to rest and bring their catch ashore.

A few years back, things changed a bit and there was this plan by the municipal government there to build a large swimming pool. Apparently, the intention was to make the place a tourist attraction like the miraculous Lady of Lourdes Spring.

On Saturday, we did it again, taking a trip to that part of the province. Foremost in my mind was to have lunch there after our visit to Mantianak Botanical Garden and Zoological Park in Sugbongcogon and Mantangale Resort in Balingoan.

I love animals and I love zoos. It may not be big but it was worth our time just the same. In Mantangale, it was unfortunate that Bro. Daniel Uy was not around. We were not allowed to get inside for sightseeing even when we were willing to pay the entrance fee of P150 per person. After all, the fee is consumable. We could have had our lunch there.

So, we had our lunch in Binuangan as planned. No regrets for missing the other. I could not believe what we saw. The construction of a church with huge pillars is underway. A pool and a restaurant are there to serve adults and children alike. And the food was excellent.

The cove is no longer recognizable. Around it is an array of small eateries serving Pinoy food. Fruits are cheap.

The municipal government of Binuangan is indeed investing huge amounts of money to put that up and I think it will make money judging from the number of people I saw going there.

After lunch, we were supposed to visit a few more. It must have been the good food we had that we fell asleep, unable to inform my nephew (driving the car) where next. When we woke up, we we’re in Villanueva already. So, we drove straight home.

Villanueva is booming, apparently. There are said to be over 20 factories there and more are planning to get in. It’s not surprising that the price of land there is also rising. The factories in the town are providing jobs to townsfolk. The Uy family must be doing a great job for their municipality.

The revelation of Atty. Glenn Chong is nothing new except the alleged evidence.

The reputation of the Commission on Elections has long been under question. Many in this office nationwide are conniving with who can best come up with a price. Politicians cannot be expected to correct this they could be the beneficiaries themselves.

When the idea of computerized elections was floated, many feared computerized cheating. What they feared, as seen in the Smartmatic case, may have happened in the last and previous elections. Nobody wanted to investigate; nobody wanted to stir the hornet’s nest.

Chong has come up with damning evidence or so it seems, and the opposition is frantic because of the likely repercussions. Would they really launch a massive destabilization action and engage the cooperation of communists? Wow, that might result in a civil war. I love that! It’s not that I thirst for blood. I just want to see how these big shots would act and what they are capable of doing. Besides, I have said it before. We need a revolution, short of a civil war, in order to achieve real change.

But all talk won’t bring change.
