Leading telecommunications provider PLDT and wireless unit Smart Communications supported anew the local developer community through the DevCon 2018 summit organized by Developers Connect (DevCon) Philippines, a volunteer organization that promotes the growth and competence of Filipino developers.

The DevCon summit, dubbed the biggest developer conference in the Philippines, was held recently at Capitol University in Cagayan de Oro City.

PLDT Enterprise and Smart, through its Innolab Developer Network (SmartDevNet), provided connectivity during the conference for the use of more than 600 participants, including presenters and exhibitors. The strong Wi-Fi connection allowed the participants to communicate with each other and share their thoughts online, while gaining invaluable knowledge that can further boost their developer skills.

DevCon 2018 brought together developers and technology enthusiasts from all over the region to showcase the latest trends, technologies, opportunities and best practices in the information technology industry.

The event also featured keynotes and panel discussions from various experts in the tech field, plus fun games and exciting giveaways.

“We are again pleased to have PLDT and Smart as partners for this year’s DevCon 2018. This partnership allows us to strengthen ties with more collaborators as we gear up for future projects,” said DevCon executive vice president Haifa Carina Baluyos.

PLDT Innolab coordinator Dara Ever Juan shared PLDT Enterprise’s thrust to help future innovators and entrepreneurs to build, innovate and scale. PLDT Innolab, PLDT’s innovation laboratory, is where innovative products and business solutions are tested and developed. It also serves as PLDT’s route for startups and developer communities who want to scale extensible partnerships.

Through research, innovation and collaboration, PLDT Innolab encourages young innovators to craft ideas that can be offered to the market.

“The goal is to build your own rocket—be the CEO of your own idea,” Ever Juan told the budding and experienced developers at the conference.

Smart DevNet is Smart’s developer community program targeted at desktop and mobile developers. It promotes general awareness of mobile apps development and technopreneurship while striving to foster a vibrant developer community in the Philippines by organizing and sponsoring tech events and meetups.

“We continue to support developer communities like DevCon especially its focused technology outreach outside of Metro Manila as this will encourage more Filipino developers and technologists to join and actively participate the exciting Philippine digital ecosystem,” said Paul Pajo, SmartDevNet’s senior developer evangelist.

PLDT Innolab, meanwhile, is looking for innovative startups, community partners, developers and interns. Interested parties may email innolab@pldt.com.ph. (PR)
