Iligan City — As early as dawn Monday, supporters of detained Mayor Celso Regencia blocked city jail again to prevent the latter from being transferred as ordered by the Regional Trial Court-Branch 77 of Quezon City dated Aug. 11.

At around 8:15 am, riot police –– reportedly from Cagayan de Oro –– alighted  from two vehicles set out to do their task.

However, thousands of Regencia’s supporters, including Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz, and city councilors confronted the riot police.

Negotiations were then made and after about 10 minutes, the uniformed men backed off.

Regencia, to note, is being detained for multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder charges in connection with the ambush of the convoy of then Congressman Vicente Belmonte, Jr on Dec. 11, 2014 near the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.

Regencia has been scheduled to appear before the court at Quezon City last Sept. 21.

The case has lingered for almost a year since Regencia surrendered to file his Certificate of Candidacy in the elections this year. Filed originally at RTC Branch 44 of Initao, Misamis Oriental, it was eventually transferred to the court at Quezon city.
