And thar she blows. Former Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson has vowed to, “Handa akong lumaban bilang ordinaryong Pilipino. Dadalhin ko ang laban sa Senado at Kongreso.”

Oh my gosh! The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) has released her to the world! More particularly to the Philippine Senate or the House of Representathieves, er, Representatives, whichever will manage to dangle a carrot first.

Beware. Be afraid. Be a bear and hibernate in Siberia as Uson spreads her wings not only to her five million Facebook followers but also from Aparri to Jolo as she urges everyone to “suntukan tayo. Bakbakan tayo. Huwag n’yo akong pigilan… Sabay-sabay na tayo. Bakbakan na kung bakbakan.” Gasp!

Apparently, it was her PCOO stint that tamed her, but now that she has resigned, she said, “Wala na akong iisipin na masagasaan… Balik sa pagiging blogger.”

So, the Pinoy was better off when Uson was still with PCOO. Darn. This could be a lose-lose situation. But with Tito Sotto as Senate President, and Lito Lapid, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla probably making a Senate comeback next year, what’s new? As usual, the Pinoy gets what he believes he doesn’t deserve.

Uson’s rise to power may help a blogger see what five million followers could do to one’s popularity as a social media influencer. Imagine—from blogger to “senatoriable.” Yay. Those who failed to win as city councilor must consider blogging as a publicelations ploy. They can start with the ABCs of safe sex, similar to the topics featured in Uson’s old videos. If that won’t rack up five million likes, good luck na lang.

Uson did sound like she was in the midst of the 1986 People Power when she said, “Mas lalaban po tayo… Gusto ko pong mas lumaban pa.” The Pinoy can enumerate many enemies of the state, but he does wonder if he and Uson are thinking of the same thing. Because if Uson’s fight is against those who are criticizing her and video co-host and fellow blogger Drew Olivar, she could be inadvertently encouraging the clueless to video pa more.

So far, Olivar has gone viral for his “i-pepe-dedealismo” plus the other videos where he mocked the sign language, suggested suicide for University of the Philippines’ student activists, and alleged that Vice President Leni Robredo’s 2017 South Africa visit was for some censored action where she used a sex toy that caused the Batangas earthquake. And there was his Facebook post on a bomb scare for which the Philippine National Police filed a complaint against him. When it rains, it’s poor, er, it pours for Olivar. Whew.

Blogging exists in the free world—no proper grammar usage required, no editing, no fact-checking.

Will Uson’s blogs tame down once she’s a senatoriable? Is her hair blond?

On Wednesday last week, her resignation from the PCOO was breaking news. That should serve as a hint on the success of her political future. She attracts attention and has name recall which are traits a political party will need in its Election 2019 campaign.

If ever Olivar will also end up running and winning next year, they will both have the last laugh in this mad race to the august halls of the Senate.

So, is the anti-Uson Pinoy still laughing? Hmmm.

Like presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, there’s Uson also claiming to be ordinary: “ordinaryong Pilipino.” But unlike Roque who doubts winning next year based on his low ranking in survey results, Uson remains optimistic, saying, “Hindi po ako tumitingin sa survey,” but she does rely on Facebook in gauging what the Pinoy’s heart beats for as she pushes to support politicians who have this: “Basta may puso.”

Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez also used Facebook to post a video of him inspecting the National Housing Authority’s project for the city’s 2017 earthquake survivors. In the video, he’s shown blaming the said government agency for using substandard materials, even accusing its employees and contractors with, “Alam naman namin mga paraan n’yo d’yan. Imposible namang hindi kayo nagbibigay rito. Imposible namang hindi tumatanggap itong mga ‘to.”

In case you’ve not absorbed anything after reading the words, Richard Gomez, yes, he’s now a mayor.

Ormoc City Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin Jr. is also as yummy as Gomez, and it wasn’t their combined leadership that prompted the lovestruck Pinay to move to Ormoc when the two won in the May 2016 election.

Will Gomez win if he runs for senator? Is the sky blue?

Senators Gomez, Locsin, Dingdong Dantes. Eye candy? Hmmm. Not exactly. But we won’t listen to their gobbledygook. We will simply stare and drool. “Basta may puso.”
