NOW that people nationwide feel disgusted that their choice for president in 2016 refused to heed their call for him to offer himself as an ultimate sacrifice for the good of the country and the people, it is time to move on, and choose who among those who have already filed their certificates of candidacy should be voted upon by them.

Many are of the view that the other best candidate for president, probably even more qualified yet, is Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago.

Anyway, Miriam is going to be a great president. Academically prepared not only as a student but as a law professor too, honed by her stints in government as Regional Trial Court judge, Immigration commissioner and senator, and always straightforward in her speech and attitude towards her fellow men even when she was writing her own columns, Miriam is without doubt fully qualified and capable of becoming president.

Of course, she is a living proof of how spin doctors, with the use of money and pliant media, could easily portray someone as angelic or as devilish as possible, even if the truth says otherwise. But then, it is always true that nothing can put a good man (or a good woman) down. If someone is good, then he or she is good, no matter what others may say about him or her.

In the case of Miriam, she is truly eccentric and esoteric on many occasions. But that is the real hallmark of a true genius, of the truly intelligent, and of someone set apart from the rest of ordinary mortals. Time and again, Miriam has shown she is no ordinary person, much less an ordinary government official.

Unlike many of those who fell out of the graces of the first Aquino presidency (whom she served as Immigration commissioner and then secretary of Agrarian Reform) who ultimately faded away, never to be heard from again, Miriam bounced back right on, and proved that her having been fired as Agrarian Reform secretary was the result of her refusal to follow orders about a big estate in Tarlac.

There is just one big issue about her though that needs immediate and serious clarification. This involves her statement way back that God does not exist, in response to questions about the loss of one of her sons (who allegedly committed suicide by firing a gun on himself).

She must come to terms about the existence of a Being far superior to herself, or to any other man. Whatever this “Superior Being” maybe called––God, Jehovah, Yahweh, or Allah––the undeniable fact is that there is a God who created all that are now found on earth.

This is the God who knows all and who is All Powerful, the God who is so intelligent that each and every specie, including mankind, were created in the same fashion, having the same physical attributes, although appearing differently. This is also the God who gives victory to those who honor and thank Him, and defeat and curses as well, for those who ignore Him.
