Cagayan de Oro is blessed with a lot of talents.

Bands scene in Cagayan de Oro have been around since the 1980’s. During the 1990’s when the grunge revolution started worldwide and the Pinoy Rock Scene exploded, Cagayan de Oro is not left behind with its own rock scene.

CdeO bands are alive with head banging and music appreciation all the way to the BisRock genre in the early 2000’s up to the present, and then there’s Thorre.

Thorre is composed of Gedion Rey Maxilom on drums, John Anthony Gomelos on  vocals, Floremar June Espanueva on keys/ rythm guitars, Yvonne Sabunod on bass and Nico Anthony Torcino III on lead guitars.

On their fourth year anniversary as a band we would like to interview them on how they started and what are their future plans. RC: how did Thorre start?  Thorre: The band started last 2014, playing around Misamis Oriental and because of vocalist, who wants to share his compositions.  RC: What is unique in Thorre from other bands? T: We are unique because each of our members have different taste in music, even though we have differences in our favorite genre we still gather together to create music that is good for us, we also considered the band as our family.

RC:  What were the awards Thorre got? T: During our 4 year as a band, we won several top awards from various contest all over Northern Mindanao, but our biggest so far was chosen as grand finalist of the Red Horse Muziklaban in 2016 representing Mindanao in the national scene. RC: How did it change Thorre’s musicality in winning these awards? T: Winning every competition is a challenge for us to become better than what we are yesterday.

We try to see to it that we learn something from every experience to create better and touching music. In our performance we never get satisfied of our usual routine, we try to improve on how we can entertain the viewers and get them to participate in our songs. RC: What are your future plans? T: We plan to create more songs and maybe launch our 1st full length album and do tours, we already have our EP album and is already available on Spotify.

RC:  What is your message to the upcoming bands? T: Whatever struggles comes your way just continue and grow as a musician and don’t give up on your dreams. Thorre will have their 4th Anniversary concert this coming July 13, 2018 7pm at Sports Zone, Tomas Saco St. Cagayan de Oro City.  Last  July 5,2018 JCI Bai Lawanen launched their first Baila Cares for this 2018 where there’s a symposium on  Zero Tolerance for bullies, Click Responsibly, Millennial Financial Management and the newly launched END (Ending the Nightmare of Depression).  Congrats JCI Bai Lawanen!
