BALINGASAG, Misamis Oriental — A truck driver was killed when a Mitsubishi Fuso Canter truck he was driving and public bus collided along a section of the highway in Purok 3, Barangay Hermano here yesterday.
Balingasag police chief Senior Insp. Ismael Virgil Gundaya identified the fatality as Alcen Cabigquiz, 30, of Barangay Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City.
Traffic investigator PO2 Robert John Galdo said Cabigquiz’s truck, with license plates KBW-263, was en route to Cagayan de Oro City when it collided head-on with the Butuan City-bound bus.
The bus is owned by the Rural Transit Mindanao Inc while the truck is registered under Garmones Marketing of Zone 2, Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro.
Cabigquiz and his helper, Cresencio Tado, 46, of Purok 2, Barangay 2 in Medina town, were rushed to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital here.
Physicians declared Cabigquiz dead at around 5:45 am while Tado suffered minor injuries.
All 13 passengers of the bus were unharmed.
