Camp Siongco, Maguindanao — Soldiers of the Joint Task Force Central recovered a dud improvised explosive device but not without temporarily closing the traffic flow along the Isulan-Cotabato highway in Barangay Labulabu 2, Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Maguindanao at about 9 am yesterday.

This was the second bomb planted by the lawless elements in the province of Maguindanao in less than 48 hours, after the explosion of bomb made of 40mm ammunition at the construction site of the Public Market in Brgy Poblacion, Datu Paglas on July 11, at around 8 pm with no casualty.

A squad of the 57th Infantry Battalion led by Corporal Gapor Sansawi was conducting clearing operation when the suspected bomb was recovered in Barangay Labulabu.

Coordination was immediately made with the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team for the immediate disposal of the bomb.

In his statement, 601st Brigade Commander Brigadier General Diosdado Carreon said, “Recently, most of the bombs we recovered are dummies, which will not actually explode. Our assessment is that they have fewer explosives now due to the neutralization of most of their bomb makers and the bomb factory in the area.”

“The public is enjoined to remain alert, vigilant and resist all forms of terrorist acts or any similar activities perpetrated by those who wish to create chaos in the area,” said JTF Central Commander Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana.

“Our relentless campaign to defeat local terrorists and promote internal security in our joint area of operations continues to bear positive outcomes,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command. (with reports from 6id)
