TWO elderly women were crushed to death when a 10-wheel cargo truck ran them over near the town hall of Tagoloan town in Misamis Oriental, yesterday morning.

PO2 Faruc Ismael of the Tagoloan police identified one of the victims as Lucia Noynay, 61, of Upper Dayawan, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

The other victim was identified only as “Dangding.”

The truck driver was identified as 26-year-old Jovie Rodino, of Midquiwan, Barangay Bayanga, this city. He is being held at the Tagoloan police.

Investigators said the truck accidentally ran them over at around 7 am. The victims’s bodies were crushed.

Rudino told police that he stopped near a pedestrian lane after being given a signal by a traffic law enforcer. He said he moved when the same law enforcer gave him the go-ahead and failed to notice that there were elderly people walking across.

“Wala gyud nako sila nakita kay ang akong focus didto man sa traffic enforcer then taas kaayo akong truck. Gisinggitan lang dayon kos mga tawo nga duna koy naligsan,” Rudino said.

He said he was heading to Barangay Casinglot in Tagoloan to get filling materials. He just left  Barangay Mohon of the same town.

The truck, with license plates AFA-7932 and owned by Virgilio Orais, was taken to the Tagoloan police station. Rudino is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in mulitple homicide.
