Mercado told his colleagues at their regular session this week that UBI has already promised to Mayor Marie Guingona last week.

He added the contractor promised during their meeting with Guingona at the Peoples Palace.

The contractor has been dumping volumes of mud into Mamato River which has affected the entire Odiongan River, this city.

Vice Mayor Ruth Guingona, for her part, said UBI should stop immediately because the people living near the Odiongan River has already suffered enough.

Project Engr. Florentino Macarayo of the Department of Public Works and Highways has told the city council here that they would find a solution to prevent the dumping of waste materials and mud at the Mamato River.

Macarayo represented DPWH 10 when the city council invited him to explain about UBI’s practices in the river.

In an interview with Gold Star Daily, Macarayo said a big portion of the project is nearing completion which means the problem with the illegal dumping of waste materials and mud should stop next month.

City Councilor Roy Aniscal has passed a resolution that organized an investigating team to monitor the construction of the project closely.

Kinahanglan gayod ma-monitor na sila (UBI) kun motuman ba sa ilang saad nga moundang na sa pag dump sa suba,” said Aniscal.
