This was how Rep. Rolando Uy of the city’s 1st District reacted after he learned that the House of Representatives’ Electoral Tribunal dismissed the 2016 election protest of ex-councilor Lourdes Darimbang.

The Tribunal also upheld Uy’s ay 2016 proclamation as winner in the congressional elections in the 1st District.

“Salamat. Sa kataposan migawas ra gyud ang kamatu-oran ug  ang tingog sa katawhan mipatigbabaw sa tanan,” said Uy.

Uy’s long-time political ally, Mayor  Oscar Moreno hailed Uy’s legal victory in the HRET.

“I am certainly not surprised with the decision of the House  of Representatives Electoral Tribunal dismissing the electoral protest,” said Moreno.

He said Uy was clearly  granted “a very convicing mandate by the people of Cagayan de Oro’s  first district in a fair, orderly, honest and clean election.”

He said, “There was no way that anyone could even doubt that the victory  was clear and well-earned.”

Moreno said the Tribunal’s composition is in keeping with the Constitution’s mandated proportional  representation of all parties.

“Now, with this protest now behind us, Congressman Klarex can focus on his mission of serving his constituents and the city without being distracted,” Moreno said. (Nitz Arancon)
