VALENCIA City– To honor the dads and the fathers here in the city, the City Health Office headed by Dr. Marlyn V. Agbayani together with the urologists Dr. Adonis Latayan and Dr. John Mark Aycayera conducted free Prostate Cancer Screening last June 20, 2015 at City Health Office Old Building in celebration of the Prostate Cancer Awar ness Month to raise awareness against the prostate cancer.
Dr. Adonis Latayan has discussed the basic knowledge regarding prostate cancer and the why one should undergoes prostate cancer screening. He said prostate cancer screening is a way of detecting the cancer before it causes symptoms.
He added that most prostate cancers grow slowly or not at all. The test administered is the Digital Rectal Exam (DRE): This is done to estimate the size of the prostate and feel for lumps or other abnormalities.Dr. Latayan added that different people have different symptoms for prostate cancer adding that some men do not have symptoms at all. Some symptoms of prostate cancer are: difficulty starting urination; weak or interrupted flow of urine; frequent urination, especially at night; difficulty emptying the bladder completely; pain or burning during urination; blood in the urine or semen; pain in the back, hips, or pelvis that doesn’t go away and painful ejaculation.
A total of 79 patients availed free prostate cancer screening. Dr. Marlyn V. Agbayani stated that this a yearly activity of the City Health Office together with the volunteer doctors Dr. Latayan and Dr. Arcayera who rendered their free services to promote their advocacy in helping raise awareness against prostate cancer.
