THE City Government of Valencia joined the launching of this year’s Brigada Eskwela with the theme: “Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos at Handa Mula Kindergarten Hangang Senior High School” on May 27, 2016.
The Department of Education (DepEd) Valencia City Division kicked-off the program at Valencia National High School (VNHS) with the support of students, teachers, school officials, parents, community members, local government officials, non-government organizations, church groups, stakeholders and the private sector.
The kick-off ceremony is part of the week-long cleaning-up and beautification exercise that will start on May 30 to June 3 in the different schools in the city.
The Brigada Eskwela program of DepEd has become one of its major initiatives in enjoining local communities to respond to the needs of public schools and be part of a nationwide effort towards improving Philippine basic education.
Ms. Esther V. Tabañag PhD, Brigada Eskwela Coordinator, shared the purpose of the program and highlighted the importance of the stakeholders in the preparation and provision of safe and clean learning spaces for the students.
Engr. James De Vera, VNHS GPTA President, highlighted the participation of all Parent-Teachers Association in the entire school division of the city and promised to further support all the activities of Brigada Eskwela.
Valencia City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas also gave her statement of support to the program and highlighted the importance of teachers in helping mold the students.
“We need to give thanks to our teachers for we are here because of them,” Hon. Huervas said.
Schools Division Superintendent Bertilla B. Rayos, Phd, CESO V, was grateful for the overwhelming support given by the stakeholders and the villagers. She also sighted the importance of bayanihan spirit and camaraderie among stakeholders.
“Kailangan tayong lahat ay nakatayo para makabirada,” (We all need to stand to act) Rayos said in Filipino as she encouraged everyone to act and support the Brigada Eskwela and to prepare the classrooms, students as well as the parents and teachers for the incoming school year.
Meanwhile, P/Supt. Benbo P. Jumalon, City PNP Chief, also asked for the support of the entire school division for their plan to conduct lectures and seminars about the influence and effects of illegal drugs among students in different schools.
The schools favored the plan and are looking forward to help the young students to avoid illegal drugs and instead focus more on their studies.
