Iligan City — Fearing that the Maute group has already entered the city to wreak havoc, residents here received calls and text messages of a “trouble” in the city last Friday, only to find out later that a barangay chair and her partner were shot dead.

Police identified the fatalities as Nancy Magaro, 46, barangay chair of Digkilaan, this city, and common-law husband, Jamil Cayagan, 36.

They were on board a motorcycle when unidentified suspects shot them. The assailants were also on board a motorcycle. The incident happened at Purok Violeta, Acmac barangay, near San Roque parish.

Police in Station 3 are still investigating the incident. Nine empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol were found at the crime scene. The incident happened at past 9 pm.

It was learned that Magaro was on the drug list of President Rodrigo Duterte.
