Mindanaoan Meets World by:
Maria Irene Aserios

I simply had to fly to Manila for this! I’m talking about the special reception in honor of the new U.S. Embassy Manila Counselor for Public Affairs Carolyn Glassman.

The intimate event, which was hosted by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States of America, Michael Klecheski, was attended by very well-chosen few – some from NGOs, some from POs, some from the business sector and some from the traditional and online media communities.

Naturellement, I felt very honored to have been invited. So honored that I proudly told Ms. Glassman that I flew in from Mindanao just for the event. I believe I was the only one from Mindanao that evening. As soon as I told her, Ms. Glassman’s eyes lit up and she beamed at me. She then told me about her impending trips to Mindanao and about all the things she wants to experience here in our country – including going on a Filipino food trip!

I have a feeling that not only will she love the Philippines but the Filipinos will love her, too!

Chef Jessie catering, led by Jessie Sincioco, took care of the food and drinks that night. Jessie is the same person who was tapped to prepare the papal menu during the Manila stay of Pope Francis. As expected, the food was delightful and the drinks overflowing. Everyone simply had a wonderful time.

Prior to her assignment in the Philippines, Ms. Glassman served as Cultural Attache in Hungary.

Thank you to the U.S. Embassy Manila for the lovely evening! I also got the chance to see dear old friends again.

That’s it for this week! Thanks so much for reading. Til next ish! Safe travels, everybody!
