On June 23, 2018 at the Lim Ket Kai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, a group of formidable and influential women gathered to usher in a new beginning for the Zonta Club of Cagayan de Oro I. Headed by Mrs. Grace Go, the 38th Induction and Installation of Officers marked the start of the Zonta Biennium 2018-2020.

Zonta Club of Cagayan de Oro I is part of the Zonta International, a global organization comprised of professional women whose mission and vision is to empower other women through selfless service and advocacy worldwide since 1919. Founded in 1979, the Zonta Club of Cagayan de Oro I became one of its member organization which continuously uphold and enforces numerous projects to help women and children in the city.

The Induction ceremony was hosted by Ms. Roena Bince. The evening began with a welcome address by Zonta Past President Lina Estrella Faburada. She also acknowledged the presence of guests invited by the members. After dinner, a valedictory address was given by Immediate Past President Mrs. Grace Go, who highlighted the projects and advocacies done during her term as president for the past two years. There were information drives against human trafficking, anti-bullying, teenage pregnancies as well as medical missions and provisions of medical wheelchairs to cerebral palsy patients in the city. Their past projects focused on health and well-being of women and children.

Zonta Area Director Josephine Go presided over the installation of new officers for 2018-2020. At the helm is President Guadalupe Chu and supported by Vice-President Caroline Neri. Other officers include Imee Van der Born (Secretary), Dianne Lim (Treasurer) and the Board of Directors which comprises of Roena Bince & Sheryl Pacheco (Z Club), Sheryll Macarangal ( VAWC), Lina Estrella Faburada (Public Relations), Grace Go & Denvi Cabrera (Membership), Carol Gambe & Nenita Tan (United Nations & Fellowship), Lily Lim & Rose Paras (Ways & Means), Evelyn Tan & Daisy Tiu (Special Project Duyan).

After the induction, an acceptance speech was given by new President Guadalupe Chu. She challenged everyone to embark on a new journey to make a difference in her term. The members and guests gave their resounding acceptance of the challenge as well. The awarding of plaques of appreciation by IPP Grace Go to members followed. This was in recognition of their willingness to help women and children live safely and humanely in the city.

The program closed with a few words from new Vice-President Caroline Neri. She reminded everyone that the Zonta Club of Cagayan de Oro I stands for more than a non-profit organization. It stands for hope to all women and children who suffer in the city and around the world. It also stands for friendship and true giving of one’s self for the good of mankind.
