14th Firefly Electric-Frederick Siao basketball league opens in Iligan city

ILIGAN City — The 14th Firefly Electric Company-Frederick Siao Basketball League opened this week at Chung Hua School Gym in Palao, this city.

In her opening address Congressional Office Staff Armien Alorro welcomed the 35 teams that are participating this year.

She recalled that this yearly event began when Siao was appointed sports director during the first term of former Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz.

She said the event continued yearly until now that Siao is going on his second term as congressman of the Lone District of Iligan.

She thanked the team organizers, coaches and everyone involved in the preparations to make this year’s league successful.

Chairman Wenefredo Niez of the host barangay who is also one of the leading figures of basketball in this city gave a very inspiring message to the participating athletes before tossing the ceremonial ball.

He recalled that he finished his studies as an athletic scholar and encouraged the young athletes to do their best and acquire the right habits and discipline that an athlete must have.

The activity has consistently and successfully been going on these years through continuing partnership of Firefly Electric Company and the Office of Congressman Frederick Siao of the Lone District of Iligan, said Alorro.
