BUTUAN City — Two barangay officials, a barangay chairman and a village councilman were arrested by operatives of the Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-Caraga) at around 9:30 am Sunday in Barangay Patin-ay, Prosperidad town in Agusan del Sur.

In a phone interview, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur Chief of Police Senior Insp. Jerry Fernandez told Gold Star Daily the two barangay officials were arrested by a coordinated operations by PDEA-Caraga and the National Police.

PDEA-Caraga Regional Director Gilbert Buenafe identified the two barangay officials arrested as Barangay Chairman Romeo “Jocjoc” Lagat, and Barangay Kagawad Danilo Ramos Tumale.

Both are residents and officials of Barangay Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

Armed with a search warrant issued by a local court, PDEA operatives conducted a raid in the residences of the two barangay officials.

Seized from the possession of Tumale were three sachets containing suspected shabu estimated to weigh five grams, one .38 caliber revolver with four live ammunition, and one .45 caliber pistol.

Meanwhile seized from Lagat were seven grams of suspected shabu contained in six sachets and drug paraphernalias.

The two barangay officials, however, denied owning the confiscated shabu.

Lagat and Tumale are now in the custody of PDEA-Caraga.

Buenafe said charges were filed yesterday afternoon against Lagat and Tumale.
