The weekend power interruptions were scheduled at a time when temperatures are soaring and posing serious health risks, and when electricity-dependent appliances for cooling down have become a necessity rather than a mere luxury.

The 12-hour blackout today will be due to the transfer of an electric post along the boundaries of Bugo, this city, and Casinglot in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental to allow the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to work on a road widening project near the Alae Bridge.

Marilyn Chavez, assistant vice president and head for community relations of the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco), said today’s blackout is scheduled from 6 am to 6 pm, and would affect the Cagayan Corn Products, Nestle Philippines Inc., Tablon, Alwana,  Cugman, Limketkai mall  in Lapasan, Gaisano City, CM Recto Ave., and Limketkai mill in Puntod.

Also affected are Sitio Tubod and Villa San Juan, Casinglot, Tagoloan, Petron Depot-Tagoloan, Barangay Bugo, Ravidas Compound, Sitio Sapong and Palalan   Tablon, AJ Wood, Iglesia ni Cristo and up to the Cugman police precinct.

Some would experience three hours of power interruption or from 6 am to 9 am and then from 3 pm to 6 pm like the Del Monte Philippines in Bugo, and HCH Corp. in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Chavez said areas being served by Camaman-an Feeders 1, 2, 3, and 4, Macasandig Feeder 1, Baloy Feeders 1 and 2,  and Carmen Feeder 3, would also experience power interruptions like Tablon, Baloy, Gusa, Lapasan, including the Agora area, greater portion of the city poblacion, Cogon market Area, Nazareth, Macasandig, Taguanao, Puntod and Macabalan, Kauswagan, Patag, Bulua, Iponan, Carmen, Calamansi  Drive to Villarin St. up to Madonna Hospital of Seriña St. Upper Carmen, Upper Balulang, and Lumbia.

“Power will however be restored immediately without further notice when Cepalco line works are completed earlier than scheduled,” said Chavez.

Tomorrow, half of Misamis Oriental would experience a nine-hour inconveniencing blackout because of another round of maintenance works scheduled by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).

Edna Django, spokesperson of the Misamis Oriental I Rural Electric Service Cooperative (Moresco I), said the power interruption is scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm.

Moresco 1’s franchise covers eastern towns of Misamis Oriental, some parts of Cagayan de Oro, and Talakag, Bukidnon.

NGCP announced that it would undertake line maintenance works along its Lugait, Misamis Oriental-Cagayan de Oro 69-kv line on Sunday.

The NGCP maintenance work would also affect the Cepalco but line switching would cushion the impact.

Cepalco said some areas in the city would only have 30 minutes of blackout in the morning and in the evening due to the switchings.

Cepalco however has scheduled two and a half hours of daily rotating blackouts in the city due to the worsening power supply shortage in Mindanao. It said the city’s power supply depends on the allocation from the NGCP which changes from time to time.

The blackout in the city on Sunday would affect the greater portion of Carmen proper, Balulang, all of Kauswagan proper, Bonbon and Bayabas, Montalban St. from Tiano Bros. St. towards Burgos St., del Pilar St. and Magsaysay St., including portions of Macahambus St. and Abellanosa St. from Burgos St, portions of Antonio Luna St. in the Capitol side from corner Corrales Ave.; towards vicinities along Apolinar Velez St. up to corner Mabini St. including portion of: Macahambus St. from Apolinar Velez St. and Tiano Bros. St. from Macahambus St.
